Retinopathy is a common sequel of long standing diabetes. It, along with Nephropathy and Non Traumatic amputations of toes, forms the dreadful triad of diabetes complications. Vision threatening retinopathy is diagnosed by in detail examination of retina under magnification by bio microscopy, indirect ophthalmoscopy and fundus photography. The condition is clinically monitored by precise vision testing and Amsler chart drawings. Fluorescein angiography is undertaken whenever necessary.

One of major causes of treatable childhood blindness is Amblyopia and strabismus. Uncorrected refractive error being the most common cause. Early correction before the age of 5 years can reverse the amblyopia and restore binocularity. Children with lazy eyes and squint are diagnosed by cycloplegic retinoscopy and autorefractometry. Binocular visual function diagnosed and monitored on Synaptophore. Surgical intervention is under taken to correct the deviation and maintain the eyes in alignment.

Cataract is the commonest cause for blindness in advancing age group. This is the surgically most rewarding disease amongst all surgically treated cases. Cataracts are diagnosed under dilated pupils on slit lamp and complete eye examination undertaken to rule out other coexistent pathologies. Intraocular lens power is calculated by Keratometry and A-Scan. Surgery is performed with high resolution Zeiss Visu 160 microscope using Higher End machines like Alcon Infinity with Ozil technology and Bausch and Lomb Millenium.
